It comes in a 60cl and 33cl bottle, launched in 2009 to replace ‘Wilfort’ by Sona Group to challenge the leadership of Guinness in the Nigerian Stout Market. The brand was also launched to cater for the need of consumers who yearn for a stout brand that is both pocket friendly and a good fit to their palette.

In 2011, Williams Dark Ale became part of Consolidated Breweries portfolio following the Sona acquisition. Currently, the Williams Dark Ale is brewed and packaged in 33cl and 60cl returnable glass packaging by Nigerian Breweries Plc. (a Heineken Operating Company) after the merger of Nigerian Breweries Plc and Consolidated Breweries Plc in 2014.
